Elizabeth Schafer is a multidisciplinary artist based in Hoboken, NJ. She graduated from Drew University in 2020 with a Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art, where she began developing the body of work she continues to expand today. Since 2019, Schafer has worked from her studio at Project Studios in Hoboken, building a vibrant, tactile practice rooted in sculptural construction and material transformation.
Her work has been featured in multiple publications and group exhibitions, including shows at the Korn Gallery in Madison, NJ, and One Art Space in Tribeca, NY. Most recently, Schafer presented a series of sculptures in the JCAST exhibition in Jersey City, where her richly textured forms were installed as part of the city wide arts festival.
At the core of Schafer’s practice is her distinctive yarn-wrapping process. She sculpts forms from wood, plaster, clay, and wire, then meticulously wraps them in continuous spirals of yarn, treating fiber as both line and color, as paint and structure. This labor intensive method builds rhythmic, dimensional surfaces that pulse with precision, time, and touch. Through this process, Schafer transforms humble materials into boldly colored sculptural landscapes that invite a deeply tactile and emotional response.
